The Appalachian Trail is one of America's National Treasures, and it's future is dependent upon volunteers who are willing to work hard. There are 29 Trail Maintaining and Hiking Clubs, and 6 special Trail Building Crews along the Appalachian Trail, and they all can use our help. Maintaining the Appalachian Trail isn't just whacking weeds and lopping the occasional Rhododendron branch; it involves erosion control, open area management, structural engineering, as well as the opportunity to work with the ATC, Forest Service, and the National Park Service. In short, volunteering on the Appalachian Trail has something for everyone.
